Role Description

The Digital Experience Accessibility team (Digital X) in MSU IT Academic Technology is seeking a digital accessibility Intern. Digital X serves Michigan State University by providing technical accessibility solutions and by advocating for the accessibility of digital materials. We work with web developers, content coordinators, and instructors/instructional designers. This paid position seeks designers, advocates, writers, and/or educators. We focus on team-oriented, person-first work that revolves around the users we design and build for. We value relationship building and always work to advocate for the user, which is oftentimes MSU students with a variety of disabilities. The successful candidate’s work will have an impact on individuals with and without disabilities and will enhance the accessibility of the University.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

60% This internship will involve working in a production environment for online/blended courses and web enhance courses. Interns will work with a team of technical experts, instructional designers, web developers, assistive technology specialists, and instructors. Work involves formatting and authoring course material to suit user needs and improve the user experience for all.
30% Applicants should be acquainted with a learning management system (D2L, using it in your class is enough). Extra consideration is placed on candidates who have web and media production experience, and have an interest in working with a team with strong technical and communication skills. 
10% Continue to learn web accessibility regulations, standards, and best practices, while maintaining practices.  

Minimum Requirements

D2L, HTML, CSS, NonVisual Desktop Access, Job Access With Speech, VoiceOver, assistive technologies, Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, Microsoft Office Products, Mobile Apps, Productivity Apps like Trello, Skype, Google Apps, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency in principles of content management. Document design, web design, video production, and project management. Interest in educating others in face-to-face settings, and over the web.
