Dan Meier, M.A.

Director of Excel Network

Dan manages the Excel Network and coordinates experiential learning programs such as study abroad/away and international internships in the College of Arts & Letters. He has a bachelor’s degree from MSU and a master’s degree in International Studies from the University of Denver.  As a student/recent graduate, Dan studied abroad in Spain, taught English in Chile, and participated in a service learning program in India. He has over 10 years of experience in the field of international education.

Christie Schichtel, LMSW

Career Consultant

Christie supports College of Arts & Letters students in exploring their career options, preparing for life after MSU, and connecting to future career opportunities. Christie joins the Excel Network team with a background in service-learning and community engagement initiatives. She has a Bachelor of Arts in French from Grand Valley State University and a Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan.

Maggie Harris, MSW

Internship and Alumni Coordinator

Maggie helps College of Arts & letters students integrate their classroom knowledge with real-life work opportunities. Some of her favorite career development activities include resume and cover letter consultations, connecting students to internship opportunities, and bringing together students and alumni with shared professional interests. Maggie has two bachelor’s degrees from MSU and a Master of Social Work degree from Washington University in St. Louis.

Mary Rooney


Mary works as the communications intern for the Excel Network and is in charge of creating the newsletter, updating the networks social media, and event planning. She is a current senior studying Film Studies and Media Information with a concentration on Film Production, as well as a minor in Anthropology and LGBTQ/Sexuality Studies. Upon graduation she plans on traveling abroad. 



Abigail Scott


Abigail works to support three of the Excel Network Career Communities: Publishing, Editing & Authorship; Design, Technology & Media; and Visual Arts, Arts Administration & Performing Arts. She is a senior double majoring in English and Professional & Public Writing. Abigail recently studied abroad in Ireland on the Literary Studies in Dublin program. After graduation, she hopes to pursue a career in public relations.

Luke Hollenbaugh


Luke represents three of the six career communities: International Affairs, Law, & Government; Nonprofit, Education, & Social Impact; as well as Entrepreneurship, Business, & Innovation. He is currently a sophomore studying English and Interdisciplinary Studies in Social Science. Luke has studied abroad in the United Kingdom, studying fairy tales, and upon graduation hopes to become a secondary education teacher.

Devin Heard


Devin assists the Excel Network as a Career Peer Intern to the CAL student-body by improving resumes and cover letters to help prepare students for internships, job selection, study abroad programs and other opportunities. He is an undergraduate majoring in Humanities-Prelaw with a Minor in Leadership of Organizations. After earning his undergraduate degree, he anticipates law school.
