Modernity in the Streets: England and France is a 4 week study abroad program that visits France, and the United Kingdom.  The program combines elements of classroom instruction interspersed with independent exploration and guided travel.  The curriculum focuses on the European experience during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, with a particular emphasis on the experience of living in a modern city in the 19th and 20th centuries.

The program begins in Paris where the students will stay for 10 days. We will visit the major museums including the Louvre, The Pompidou Center, The Musee d'Orsay and the Chateau of Versailles. There will be many walking tours including visiting the department stores, the Jewish quarter, the passages, the Eiffel Tower, and the Marais.  From Paris we will travel to Belgium to visit World War 1 battle sites, and museums at Ypres. We will also tour Vimy Ridge and various other cemetaries and memorials. We will then return to Lille where we will take the TGV (High speed train) under the English Channel to London. In London we will visit the Tate Modern, The Victoria and Albert, and the Churchill War rooms.
