The Alliance for African Partnership (AAP) seeks to promote sustainable, effective, and equitable long-term partnerships among African institutions, Michigan State University, and other international collaborators. The AAP strives to build networks across all sectors (universities, NGOs, government, and private sector) to engage with development challenges that fall within our thematic areas. The mission of the AAP is to mobilize and support these partnerships in such a way that the resulting activities positively transform institutions and livelihoods in Africa. 


General Tasks

  • Develop ideas and draft news stories and features for the AAP website, social media, and other MSU and international outlets
  • Create and curate social media content and interact with followers
  • Conduct interviews with MSU faculty and international partners for potential stories
  • Office coverage, reception, and administrative tasks, as assigned
  • Reports to the Program Liaison, unless otherwise arranged

 Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Proven writing skills
  • Experience with social media
  • Attention to detail with excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work in a sometimes fast-paced welcoming business environment
  • Ability to multitask and work on multiple assignments
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to follow AAP Brand Strategy guidelines
  • Ability to collaborate with a graphic designer on larger projects
  • Ability to work in a team-based environment
  • Able to work up to 10 – 15 hours a week during the school semester. Hours are also available during semester breaks and summer

Desired Qualifications & Skills

  • Undergraduates who are in their second or third year are encouraged to apply, as are others; graduate students may also apply
  • Students should be majoring in journalism, creative writing, communications, or other relevant disciplines
  • Experience managing and growing public social media accounts
  • An interest in working within a multi-cultural setting involving faculty, staff and visitors
