Design in Chicago

Location: Chicago, IL

Semester: Spring/May 2023 (tentative)

This study away program will take place over spring break in Chicago. Students interested in pursuing a career in Graphic Design, Advertising, Photography, Publishing, Social Media, Marketing, Motion Design, and/or Film Studies are encouraged to apply. 

Students will be connected to Chicago-based MSU alumni through a special on-site event and through several tours to studios, agencies, and firms in the city. The week will end with a discussion panel and an opportunity to get feedback on your portfolio from professionals.

Dates: May 2023 (approx. 5 days immediately following spring semester; exact dates TBD)

Application Deadline: Late fall; Exact dates TBD

Courses: Students will earn 1 credit of GD 491 (Special Topics in Graphic Design)

HousingFreehand Hotel Chicago (shared rooms)

Eligibility: Students must have an minimum overall GPA of 2.0 or higher. The program is open to students of all majors and all levels of artistic experience.  Preference will be given to College of Arts & Letters majors. COVID-19 vaccination is required in order to participate.

Estimated Program Fee: $600 – $800

Program fee does not include MSU tuition, roundtrip flight, additional meals, and personal spending money. Tuition costs vary depending on class standing, resident/non-resident status, etc. Visit MSU Student Accounts for information on tuition rates.
