Language & Culture in Puerto Rico

Language & Culture in Puerto Rico is a study away program designed for students who have completed SPN 202 or its equivalent.  During this program, students will spend three weeks in San Juan, Puerto Rico, living in residence halls, taking classes, and experiencing life in “La Isla del Encanto.” Students will participate in a number of excursions to places like El Yunque rainforest, Piñones Beach, Guavate, Cayey (pork highway), Charcol Azul (natural swimming pool), and a bioluminescent bay kayaking tour. Come join us for an exciting learning experience in Puerto Rico!  

Application Deadline: February 15, 2022 (program not yet open to applications). Note that applications will not be reviewed until after the application deadline. 

Program Dates: 2 weeks in May/June 2023 (exact dates TBD)

Eligibility: Students must be in good academic standing and have successfully completed SPN 202 prior to program start date. COVID-19 vaccination is required in order to participate.

Course Offerings:  Students will enroll for a minimum of 7 credits in the following courses:

  • SPN 310 or SPN 342 (3 credits)
  • Upper-level IAH or AL 491 (4 credits)

Housing: Shared rooms in La Universidad del Sagrado Corazón residence hall.

Estimated Program Fee: $2,600-$2,800

Program Fee includes housing, two meals daily, insurance, on-site support, group excursions, and transfers to/from group activities/excursions. Fee does not include MSU tuition, airfare to and from Puerto Rico, some local transportation, books and materials, additional meals, and personal spending money. Financial Aid will be applicable to the total estimated cost of the program.
