THE PETER D. & JULIE F. CUMMINGS CUBE –known more commonly as The CUBE–is the DSO’s black box performance space within The Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center. The Cube is defined for the curated, urban, boundless experiences it delivers to audiences. The venue is designed to not only be accessible but relevant to communities the DSO serves and wishes to attract with consciously curated arts programs. The 2021-2022 PARADISE JAZZ SERIES commemorates 80 years since Orchestra Hall re-opened as the Paradise Theatre, the historic Detroit jazz venue on the site of Orchestra Hall from 1941-1951 after the DSO moved to the larger Masonic Auditorium. Position Summary
The Jazz and @THE MAX will provide primary support for @ THE MAX programming in the areas of artist and events logistical needs, marketing, administration, and strategic partnerships.
The Jazz and @THE MAX coordinator will act as a liaison with guest artists, artist management, partners, and venues. This position requires a high level of professionalism, tact, and integrity due to the frequency of internal/external contacts and exposure to confidential information.
Specific Responsibilities
- Assists with contract administration
- Assists with preparation and distribution of artist information
- Serves as concert duty assistant for Paradise Jazz Series, The Cube, and Sosnick Courtyard
- Collaborates and assists with Artistic Operations department projects
- Researches and performs special projects as assigned depending on individual interests/strengths
- Drives DSO company vehicles and rental vehicles up to 15 passenger capacity to transport guest artists
- Promotes positive DSO artist relations
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Prepares guest artist hospitality per artist riders which requires traveling to local markets and shopping for specific needs
Position Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in music, music business, arts management, and/or equivalent experience is preferred
- Strong technology skills–knowledge of Microsoft Office; willingness to learn and master new software
- Creative, resourceful, ambitious, driven and detail-oriented
- Self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills–applied to working directly with vendors and key internal staff members, external organizations, and guest artists
- Willingness to work non-traditional hours, including nights and weekends
- Comfortable with working in a demanding, dynamic, and fast-paced environment
- Passionate about connecting people from all walks of life to live music experiences and visual arts, a plus!
- The essential duties for this position require in-person interaction with staff, musicians, and/or guest artists. Therefore, in alignment with the DSO’s COVID-19 safety policy, full vaccination for COVID-19 is required for employees working in this position
