Title: Red Cedar Log Content Editor
Compensation: $11/hr, 12 hrs/week
Term of Employment: One year beginning the first day of the fall semester and ending on the last day of the spring semester
Office Hours: 12 per week during fall and spring semesters (2 hours scheduled for the weekly general staff meeting). In Student Services or another location necessary to carry out the goals and objectives of ASMSU as deemed appropriate by the supervisor

Responsibilities:
- Manages a staff of journalists
- Responsible for training staff in AP style, basic journalism practice, and yearbook operations.
- Acts as a resource and facilitates staff operations in a manner that supports the educational experience of the Red Cedar Log staff.
- Coordinates all story assignments for the yearbook via weekly staff meetings and phone, e-mail, or other communication.
- Collaborates with the Photography Editor(s) and the Design Editor(s) to ensure seamless production of the yearbook
- Responsible for having a deep understanding of on-campus life, organization, and events. Ensures that events, people, and organizations assigned represent the diversity and campus environment of Michigan State University appropriately
- Edits all stories using AP style. Reads each story for content before delivering it to the copy editors for fact-checking
- Responsible for reading, understanding, and implementing the standards set forth in the Associated Collegiate Press Code of Ethics.
- Attendance at weekly Red Cedar Log Staff Meetings
Requirements:
- Superior knowledge of MAC, web design, InDesign, Photoshop 5.0, and MS Word
- Previous publication experience, superior knowledge in yearbook publishing, and strong knowledge of AP style
- Ability to organize time wisely and work well under deadline pressure
- Ability to assertively and maturely communicate with and lead a group of intern employees
- Ability to learn quickly and respond to staff needs as they arise
- Ability to represent the Red Cedar Log as a professional and highly accountable student organization
- Ability to negotiate well
- Ability to evaluate and establish better practices to improve the operations of the yearbook
- Ability to exhibit behavior and conduct reflecting the mission of ASMSU
- Shall maintain current knowledge of the codes, policies, and procedures of ASMSU
