Attend the Toronto International Film Festival. One of the largest film festivals in the world, it attracts close to half a million attendees each year, five thousand of whom are industry professionals.
This course looks at film festivals as key institutions for film industries of the world, city life, and the history of prestige cinema. The primary object of engagement and analysis will be the Toronto International Film Festival, which is one of a handful of influential festivals around the world. Using the festival as a keystone of the course, students will engage with questions of festival history, programming choices, industry-festival partnerships, and film publicity.
