What was your internship title and role/responsibilities?
I’m an intern with the Arts4U team, specializing in event planning for the arts. Our mission is to integrate the arts into research initiatives, university culture, community outreach, and educational experiences. In my role, I actively collaborate with various campus organizations to foster artistic engagement and create meaningful opportunities for students and the broader university community.

How did you obtain your internship? What resources did you utilize to secure your internship?
I initially applied for the internship through Handshake, and about two weeks later, I was invited for an interview. During the interview, my supervisor and I discussed my previous experiences and explored how my skills and interests could best align with the role.

What did your daily routine include?
I typically start my day by going to the gym before returning to my apartment to prepare for classes. Throughout the day, I make it a priority to check and respond to emails in between classes. After my classes, I focus on event planning, organizing details, and drafting emails to be sent out the following morning.

Your favorite experience from the internship?
My favorite experience from this internship has been seeing my hard work come to life. Two standout examples include the Painting Event I organized in collaboration with UAB and my color-by-number design being featured in the University Health and Wellness Event at the Kellogg Center. It is incredibly rewarding to witness these projects make a positive impact on the campus community.

What was your least favorite part of the internship?
My least favorite part of the internship is waiting for responses.

What skills did you learn and/or build upon during your internship?
I have strengthened my time management, communication, and event planning skills throughout this internship.

What did you learn about the industry or your career path as a result of the internship? What are your future plans?
I have learned that planning arts-related events is a complex and time-intensive process. However, it has also been a rewarding experience. My goal is to work for the Detroit Institute of Arts, continue painting, and pursue graduate school after my gap year.

What advice do you have for other students seeking out internship opportunities?
Apply for everything you are interested in and don’t limit yourself.
