Role Description
Responsible for performing specialized duties to assist with the logistical coordination of hundreds of election workers, material and equipment in preparations for upcoming citywide elections for over 83,000 registered voters. In addition, they would learn and document the steps required for the democratic process in the City of Lansing to ensure elections are fair, ballots are secured and the entire process is transparent to the public. This internship would be ideal for students interested in political science, public administration, and office administration.
Pay Rate
Estimated salary: $10:00 per hour
Skills Required:
- Excellent reading and writing skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently to complete goals
- Eagerness to learn
- Workable knowledge of personal computer operations, Microsoft Office Software
Primary responsibilities:
- Prepare materials and equipment for upcoming election
- Assist with the preparing and processing of election ballots and voter absentee applications
- Update or create procedures and checklists for the multiple processes required to be completed for each election
- Perform data entry and search of critical file information
- Compile and analyze issues and complaints and develop recommendations
- Fax, scan and photocopy documents
- Assist with other office projects
Upon completion of internship, student will have the opportunity to:
- Experience the different elements of the election process which are essential to the U.S. democratic process
- Experience Lansing City governmental operations
- Learn examples of how to coordinate hundreds of people, material, and election equipment
- Understand steps to ensure elections are fair, ballots are secured and the entire process is transparent to the public
- Work as a team to accomplish desired goals
- Understand what future employer expects from an employee in a professional office environment
