Student PIRGs Activist Bootcamp | Boston, Massachusetts

Our approach requires each intern not only to develop expertise in campaign strategy, but also to become skilled in organizing and the political process. As an intern you will work side by side with the professional organizing staff of The Student PIRGs. Internships are available for undergraduate and graduate students in law, political science, public policy, sociology or environmental studies, but students in any area of study may apply. Previous campaign and/or advocacy experience is a plus.

Community Resilience Summer Internship

The Michigan Community Service Commission, the state’s lead agency on volunteerism, is seeking individuals to serve as a Summer Associate through the AmeriCorps VISTA program. Individuals will serve with the Michigan Community Service Commission or a nonprofit organization in Michigan to support capacity building in the areas of health, education, veterans, disaster recovery, economic opportunity, or equity and social justice. Fellows will be able to select one or more of the listed focus activities that match their interest, skills, and career pathway. The Sierra Club has an extremely rigorous endorsement process and focuses on the most competitive races with the best environmentally-minded candidates. In this internship, we will train you on the basic skills of campaign organizing, educate you about environmental issues impacted by politics, and then deploy you to be part of a candidate’s campaign for somewhere between one to five months (depending on your schedule).

Lansing City Clerk Election Intern

City of Lansing | Lansing, Michigan

Responsible for performing specialized duties to assist with the logistical coordination of hundreds of election workers, material and equipment in preparations for upcoming citywide elections for over 83,000 registered voters. In addition, they would learn and document the steps required for the democratic process in the City of Lansing to ensure elections are fair, ballots are secured and the entire process is transparent to the public. This internship would be ideal for students interested in political science, public administration, and office administration.

Community Literacies in Canada

Toronto & Montreal, Canada | Spring Post-Term

In Canada, the cities and communities will become the sites for learning, and time spent with partners leading workshops will be considered classroom time as well. We will also participate in multicultural excursions to relevant cultural and historical sites and will interact with guest lecturers on site as well. Students will submit multiple reflections and smaller low-stakes writing projects throughout the course and will collaborate on a final project due several weeks following the trip.
