My favorite part of my internship included being able to apply what I've learned. I also love the staff that I worked with, they were kind and goal driven individuals. I wholeheartedly enjoyed my time interning for CeADAR. I had the opportunity to be a remote UX/UI for CeADAR, an Irish company that focuses on A.I. development and machine learning. I began this internship in September 2021 and completed it in December 2021. I had the chance to apply what I‘ve learned throughout my time within the XA program. The ten weeks flew by quickly, I'm still in disbelief.

In my internship, I was an Environment and Sustainability Intern. I helped a non-profit organization complete funding requests in order to finance projects regarding environmental conservation and sustainability. My advice for future students considering doing an internship is to be willing to take chances and try something new. I didn't know a lot about this opportunity or company when I started, but I'm very happy I took this chance and worked for this company.

My advice is to keep an open mind and understand that it may not be exactly how you imagine it's going to be. Also, take every opportunity to soak up as much knowledge as possible. You can learn from every experience, make it count. Lastly, have fun and don't be afraid to be honest with yourself if you realize that you don't actually love it the way you thought you would. These experiences are supposed to aid you in your professional journey and that can look a lot of different ways to different people.

I learned a lot of new things during this internship. Some of these skills include Newsletter style writing, how to make style guides, how to build a resume, how to plan and run efficient meetings, how to reach out to community partners around the globe and strategize community outreach, how to promote a survey, how to develop a long term advertising plan, how to create a unique social media campaign, how to write press releases, how to develop and post on a website, etc. One piece of advice is to make sure you choose to be a part of a team who has the same beliefs as you do, who will offer you opportunities based on your interests, and work with you to reach your own personal goals.

My main piece of advice to those looking for an internship is to have an open mind. Some internships may not seem appealing to you for one reason or another, but you never know who you will connect with or what you'll experience until you are there!

The Law Office of David L. Carrier, P.C. | Grand Rapids, Michigan

To my fellow students, go out there and find opportunities as soon as you can. The sooner you do it, the more time you get to explore areas that interest you. The more time that you have, the more you can explore and be able to figure out what you like and don't like. Don't be afraid to go put yourself out there and start networking early on!

Clay Space TC | Traverse City, Michigan

I was the Clay Space studio intern for the summer. I helped with the physical movement of work through the ceramic process; through loading and unloading kilns, mixing up glazes, and helping reclaim the studio's clay. I also assisted with teaching during multiple kids camps this summer. Another component of my time in the studio was making my own work and introducing new things into the studio space.

I was a marketing intern and my primary roles were to edit videos and design a brochure for an award show that my organization was throwing. Improving my video editing skills was my favorite part about this experience. Also, I learned a lot more about marketing and learned some design skills. This experience also helped me improve my time management skills and networking skills. In the future, I plan to pursue a job that involves video editing.
